Every graduate student enrolled in a thesis track of any of Alfaisal's programs must have an Academic Supervisor assigned by the Program Director with the approval of the College Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research. The Academic Supervisor plays a critical role in guiding students throughout their studies by assisting in selecting a thesis topic and preparing a research plan. These actions comply with the rules approved by the University Council based on recommendations from the Research and Graduate Council (RGC) and the Permanent Committee for Graduate Studies (PCGS).

Also, each student is assigned a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee formed by the Program's Director (FORM G09). In master's programs, the Committee is called the Thesis Advisory Committee; in Ph.D. programs, it is referred to as the Dissertation Advisory Committee. The Committee comprises a minimum of three members, including a faculty member who serves as the primary academic advisor/supervisor and chair. An Advisory Committee is responsible for assisting graduate students in formulating and gaining approval for the Thesis/Dissertation Proposal outlined in (FORM G10). They also guide students during their research execution and writing process and help them prepare for their oral defense.
